The Much awaited Windows Vista was launched. Now, this OS soon lost it’s charm as some people said the graphics are a copy of Mac OS X.
But this time Microsoft has done some really good work, they have actually rewritten the whole code book, making it much more user friendly and much secure.
Some of the main features of Vista are given below
- Windows Aero: The latest new style by Microsoft with translucent windows, live movies and animation.
- Windows Shell: This is time the whole shell is also rewritten as to get the compatibility with the latest Hardwares, to get the capability of getting better organization and other stuff.
- Windows Sidebar: This is the best feature in Vista. This new side panel can hold many new gadgets like sticky notes, weather forecast, sports etc. that too live if connected the the internet.
- Windows sideshow: This feature allows us to get an additional display on other screens, be it be a laptop, projector, PDA, or any other display device.
- Windows Calender: A new Windows calender gets new task management tool.
- Windows Mail: Outlook Express has been replaced by Windows Mail. It has new features like real time searching, better spam filter, and a completely new Anti-Phishing software. All these provides a better stability to Windows Mail.
- Windows Defender and Firewall: Advanced anti-spy ware and new two way firewall has been incorporated in the new Vista.
- Windows media player 11: The big change can be seen in media player 11, which is also available for download if you are running a original copy of XP. The interface is completely new, better library, better organization, and a all new software called “URGE”, which acts like a homepage of media player.
- Windows photo gallery: A photo and movie management tool, that allows you to edit and create slide shows.
- Windows media Center: This feature allows you to watch TV, radio and all other entertainment stuff. This is now a part of every version of Vista.
- Windows DVD maker: This program allows to create video DVD’s.
- Backup and restore center: For data back up, which is now more user friendly and provide back up as in complete, periodic, incremental or changes.
- Direct X 10: The latest multimedia program which enhances the 3D effect and betters the gaming experience.
- Super fetch: Keeps the list of frequently used programs and load them faster by keeping that in memory.
- Network Center: The new network center which eases the task of networking, be it wired or wireless. Helps much in troubleshooting as well.
- Ready drive: This new feature enable Computers with Hybrid drives ( like flash memory) to boot faster, resume faster from hibernation and preserve more power.
- Ready Boost: Its a performance booster as it catches any flash memory automatically for temporary use for disk disk caching.
- Speech recognition: This feature was a part of Office Xp and above but was not much successful, but now it is a part of windows and the new advanced version provides a better wide and flexible set of commands.
- Internet Explorer 7: Its a new browser which also available for download if one is using the original copy of Windows Xp. This new browser is more secure, RSS capable, got better pop-up blocker and anti phishing software. It also comes with a tabbed interface.
- Instant Search: Its not as instant as its name suggest but yes much faster than what we are used to in Xp.
These were some of the basic and main features that are different from other versions of Windows. In these Microsoft seems to have done a good amount of work for that part of Software.
