Disable the Default Shared Folder In Xp

By VJ | Jul 2, 2007

When you work on the Network, you will observe that even if none of the folders are shared, there are some default shared folders which are always available. They can be a bit of threat as they do contain data, and in case you don’t want to share them, there is no way known to unshare them. Then what can be the possible solution? Again things come to registry, we need to make some changes and make new values in Registry.
Lets see what all needs to be done.

  1. Go to Run and open regedit.
  2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\
  3. Create a new DWORD value and name it as NoSharedDocuments and give its value as 1.
  4. Now Reboot Your Computer and you will not see the shared folders on the Network.
